Tina Fey addresses nasty internet bloggers in her acceptance speech, and flippantly tells them to, "suck it!"

Tracy Morgan, accepting the award for Best Comedy for 30Rock, "I'm the new face of post-racial America. Deal with it Cate Blanchett!!!"

Both of Kate Winslet's acceptance speeches (even though I wanted Cruz to win supporting actress)

COLIN FARRELL WON!!! COLIN FARRELL ACTUALLY WON!!!!

Kate Winslet, receiving the Best Lead Actress - Drama award, congratulates her fellow nominees, except for Angelina Jolie, whose name she blanks out on. The camera then cuts to Jolie trying her best to not look pissed. God I love live TV.

For the first time in YEARS, the speech by the president of the Hollywood Foreign Press was SHORT (and even a little amusing).

Virtual unknown Sally Hawkins (Best Actress - Comedy) is on the verge of tears and so stunned that she can barely hold herself up.

They actually kept the show within the slotted 3 hour run time.

Director Darren Aronofsky playfully gives Mickey Rourke the middle finger during Rourke's acceptance speech.

Emma Thompson. Just having her there makes things 15% better.

They finally stopped asking celebrities "who are you wearing". It's about damn time.

Ricky Gervais and Sacha Baron Cohen's somewhat brutally funny introductions while presenting.

The Bad:

Megan Fox telling a red carpet interviewer that she hates the way she looks and that sometimes she, "feels like throwing up!" Classy broad, eh?

Who got a boost?:

• Revolutionary Road for Best Picture, Director, Actor, and Actress. If anyone was truly in danger of falling out of the running, it was DiCaprio.
  
• The Reader for Picture and Director
• Angelina Jolie for Best Actress (allow me a moment to take out my RAGE on a pillow).
• Marisa Tomei for Best Supporting Actress. She missed out here last year for "Before the Devil Knows You're Dead" and that was the end of her. She's beginning to look like a much stronger contender.
• Robert Downey Jr. Both a surprise and not a surprise. On one hand, he was bound to get some love for his spectacular career-revival, but at the same time faced steep competition from more "traditional" award-worthy performances.
• Side Note: It wasn't necessarily deserved, but Tom Cruise's nomination for Tropic Thunder made me smile. Normally I can't stand him, but he was HILARIOUS in that movie. Shame that Josh Brolin got left in the dust...
• Amy Adams, Viola Davis, and Philip Seymour Hoffman for Doubt.
  
• Kristin Scott Thomas for Best Actress. The truly low budget films usually get completely snubbed by the Globes, so the fact that she made it in is impressive (although the fact that she's a well known actress probably helped).
• Ralph Fiennes for Best Supporting Actor. Though he is strong in The Duchess, it's a bit surprising that he got in for that role, and not for The Reader.
• In Bruges. This hilarious Pulp-Fiction-goes-to-Europe dark comedy was a gem that was given the awards death sentence: a January release date. The fact that it managed to have staying power for the finicky Hollywood Foreign Press is truly astonishing.
• Clint Eastwood for Best Actor.

• First and most shockingly: Milk and The Dark Knight being completely absent from Best Picture - Drama. Aside from the films themselves, the two hardest hit people here are director Christopher Nolan and Milk supporting actor Josh Brolin.
• Cate Blanchett for Best Actress in Benjamin Button. Maybe this will be her "off" year (which would be appropriate considering that she got that undeserved nomination for "Elizabeth: The Golden Age" last year).
• WALL-E for Best Picture. The HFPA honestly thought Mamma Mia! was better than WALL-E? Really?
• Gran Torino and Doubt for Best Picture.
• Australia for....anything actually. Such a shame, too.
  
• Che and Benicio Del Toro. Apparently winning Best Actor at Cannes wasn't enough.
• The Class and Let the Right One In for Foreign Language Film.
  

Predictions for the 2008 Golden Globe Nominees

With awards season mania finally in full swing, the most significant of early awards is about to release its nominees (this Thursday). Seeing as the Golden Globes are the first televised award show leading up to the Oscars, I thought I'd throw out some predictions, to see how they match up with the actual nominees (predictions are not ranked in any way).
